Unformatted text preview: Chapter 40 Homeostasis Organ composed of four different tissues: epithelial , connective , muscle , and nervous Epithelial: cover the body and line hollow organs and blood vessels Squamous : flat cells for permeable boundaries in skin and the gut Cuboidal : cube-shaped cells for transport of secretion in lining of ducts such as kidney and thyroid follicles Columnar : tall, narrow cells for transport, found in the respiratory tract, the small intestine, and bile duct Apical ends face outer surfaces and may have cilia or folds for SA; basil ends face inner surfaces Connective Dispersed cells embedded in ECM such as proteoglycans , adipose tissue , blood , collagen , and elastin (heart, lungs, skin) Collagen for bones and cartilagestrong and varying densities Dense in tendons and ligaments, netlike in organs shape, low density between organs, cartilage, bone...
