Sec 22.1 this chapter is about animal development it focuses on how cell to cell signals trigger certain transcription factors in the embryonic cells which causes differential gene expression and differentiation cell to cell signals and regulatory proteins allow developing cells to divide, move, interact, and differentiate my section is gamete structure and function gametogenesis is followed by fertilization we are gonna talk just about the gametes which are formed in the reproductive organs of adult organisms the similarities between the sperm and egg are: the dna and cytoplasm are the initial components, they both contribute chromosomes that are usually a haploid genome with one allele of each gene sperm structure and function o sperm develop after meiosis has produced a haploid nucleus o can someone name two of the four compartments of a mammalian sperm cell DENTON: head, neck, midpiece, and tail o Head: contains nucleus and acrosome which is filled with enzymes
