Three Themes: Enterprise systems, e-business and internal control. Enterprise Systems: integrate the business process and information from all of an organization's functional areas such as marketing, sales, cash receipts, purchasing, cash disbursements, human resources, production and logistics, and business reporting. Enterprise Resource Planning Systems : Software packages that can be used for the core systems necessary to support enterprise systems. E-Business: the application of electronic networks to undertake business processes between individuals and organizations. Internal Control: a process--effected by an entity's board of directors, management, and other personnel--designed to provide reasonable assurance regarding achieving objectives in the following categories: efficiency and effectiveness of operations, reliability of reporting and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. --Controls are used to protect the assets of the organization and ensure effectiveness of operations. --To comply with SOX, management must identify, document, and evaluate significant internal controls. Auditors must, as part of an integrated audit of the financial statements, report on the effectiveness of the organization's system of internal control. System:
