Ron Francois 10/17/2008 Chapt 7 Pg 184 1) Management today focus more on guiding, teaching, and supporting their employees as oppose to just telling them what to do. 2) Management means the process used to accomplish organizational goals through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling people and other organizational resources. 3) There are four functions of management: (1) Planning [creating a vision based on values], (2) Organizing [creating a unified system], (3) Leading [providing continous vision and values], (4) Controlling [making shore the process works] Pg 190 1) Goals are broad, long term achievements that an organization aims to accomplish, whereas objectives are specific, short-term palans made to help reach the goals. 2) Companies analyze there Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats facing the firm when they conduct a SWOT analysis. 3) Strategic planning is broad, long-range planning that outlines the goals of the firm, usually done tby top management.
