CRIMINOLOGY 2Significance of Frances Alice Kellor’s Research on Women CriminalsAlice Keller was a social reformer who got a scholarship to study social criminology at Cornel University as a Graduate student. During her study, Cesare Lombroso “asserted that criminals were genetically defective and proved this by measuring their faces and resistance to pain, claiming that certain jaw shape indicated that women were lesbians and prostitutes.” Kellor’s successfully disputed this by submitting his studies on different women population, which included African-American women in southern penitentiaries, “northern white women in prison, and northern white women in university (Romeo 2020).”The most significant thing about the research is that she was able to challenge Ceasare Lombroso the changed the way people looked at criminology. After collecting data for three years, she wrote a book in 1901, “Experimental Sociology, which brought the modern idea that the environment, not defective genes, fosters criminal tenderness. She successfully helped women lift the glass ceiling (Seremic 2016). Frances Kellor was a progressive activist and intellectual who is today best known for having led the Americanization movement that made immigrant Americans after she researches women [ CITATION Dav03 \l 1033 ].” It is also very evident that Alice Kellor was a social reformer who achieved her scholarship to study social criminology at Cornel University as a Graduate student
