The primary dependent variable of this study was student compliance. The dependent variable was defined as the completion of an instruction that a teacher or paraprofessional provided, within 10 seconds of the initial instruction. The dependent variable was generally well defined, but a more direct section could assist with locating the dependent variable more easily such as using headings. The independent variable of this study was three-step prompting. Three-step prompting was clearly defined as a method of prompt hierarchy progression (least to most).
