Lab Report 2 – Weight Control and Mud Rheology Title: Mud Type and Mud Density Increase Using Barite Purpose: Determine the correct model for the mud. Determine how much barite to use to increase the density of the mud. References: Sections 2.3.12 Report Procedure: Please write a memo to the PGE 430 District Drilling Engineer answering the following questions. (1) Using the viscometer data shown in Table 1 please prepare a plot of Shear Stress vs. Shear Rate. Use this plot to identify the correct fluid model to use in computing pump pressures required for the given mud. Please see the explanation page for this procedure. Compute from the plot the rheologic variables of yield stress, viscosity (Consistency Index), and flow behavior index. (2) The mud weight will be increased from 9.5 ppg to 11 ppg in a 1500 bbl mud system. Please compute the amount of barite that will be needed to make this adjustment. Also determine and include the minimum amount of water that will be added to prevent the viscosity from increasing when the barite is added to the
