Lab Report 4 – Salt Contaminated Mud Title: Salt Contaminated Mud Purpose: Identification and Treatment of Salt Contaminated Mud References: Section 2.1.9, 2.3.6 Report Procedure: The District Drilling Engineer has requested that you reply to the company rig supervisor giving instructions for identifying brine problems and for implementing the treatment you recommend. Using the laboratory data provided by the Alpha Mud Company as a basis for your conclusions, you are to send a memo style report to the rig giving your recommendations. Your memo is to have attachments that back up your conclusions, such as: 1. The Alpha Mud Company lab data 2. A discussion of the effect of salt contamination on various mud properties. 3. A discussion of how salt contaminant could be identified. 4. A discussion and plots of the effectiveness of the lignosulfonate (Q-Broxin) treatment used on the rheologic and filtrate properties of the mud. 5.
