Lab Report 7 – Low Solids Mud Title: Low Solids Drilling Fluids Purpose: Develop a comparison of two low solids mud types to a bentonite mud. References: Section 2.3.9, 2.3.11, 4.9.1, 5.7.6 Report Procedure: You are to write a memo style report to your Drilling Manager in which you recommend either mud A, B or C for your company to use on the next well. Costs are not to be considered in your comparisons. Remember the memo should get to the point and provide short answers to the questions, WHAT you recommend, WHY you recommend this, HOW you arrived at these conclusions, and what the reader should do NEXT. Your attachments should include the following: 1) Plots of apparent viscosity vs. shear rate and also log of viscosity vs. log of shear rate for all three muds. Note: Shear rate (in sec -1 ) is equal to rpm times 1.703 (see Example 4.19). 2) A table that displays the apparent viscosity for the three muds at all shear rates. 3) A comparison of the properties of the three mud types to acceptable values of
