Lab Report 9 – Oil Base Mud Title: Oil Base Mud Purpose: Treatment of Oil Base Mud References: Section 2.5, Exercise 2.38 Report Procedure: Your Drilling Manager has requested that you reply to him regarding the shale stability and filtration problems encountered in the Gomez Field. Using the laboratory data provided by Alpha Mud Company you are asked to prepare a memo type report to the Manager giving your recommendations for WHAT needs to be changed, WHY it should be changed, and HOW it should be changed for the next well. Your report is to have attachments that back up your conclusions, such as: 1. The Alpha Mud Company lab data 2. A discussion of what problems may arise due to a low voltage stability and water in the filtrate of an oil base mud and how it should be corrected. 3. A discussion of the effect water activity imbalance has on water transfer to shales and how this affects shale stability. 4.
