(1) Please construct an Excel plot of depth versus resistivity for the attached data set.
Please construct a trend line on the graph that intersects the data points of (1000’
and 2 ohmm) and (6000’ and 6.4 ohmm). Indicate on your plot where the top of
the over pressured transition region begins.
(2)
Determine the slope and intercept of the trend line given to you in part (1). Use
the resulting equation of the line to predict the resistivity associated with “normal”
pore pressure. Show a column of your spread sheet for the predicted pore pressure if
the proportionality constant exponent for resistivity is 1.2 as shown in the notes.
(3) Construct an Excel plot showing the mud window that results from parts (1) and
(2) if the kick and trip margins are both 0.5 ppg. Based on this plot, what is your
opinion concerning the prospects for successfully drilling this well?
(4) Repeat part (3) if area experience has shown that the proportionality constant
