This choice is worth +0.25 pts Production Hole – From Table 7.7, the bit should be a 6 ¼”. Other bits shown in Table 7.7 are 6” and 6 1/8”. Accept these for full credit of +0.5 pts. NOTE: the student should note that we do not achieve a 1” cement sheath desirable for production casing around the collar of the 4 ½” casing with any of these bits. Therefore, the largest possible is the best choice. Note the special comments for the intermediate casing. The bit must be selected to be larger than the 6 7/8” drill collar which also allows us to use a bit now that is large enough to provide the 1” thickness around the 4 ½” casing. The standard US size for this is a 7 7/8” bit. Intermediate Hole From Table 7.7 the bit size is 12 ¼” +0.5 pts Note that the other bit choice in Table 7.7 is a 14 ¾” bit. This causes the surface casing diameter to be un-necessarily large. The 12 ¼” bit gives adequate cement sheath for intermediate casing. Surface Casing
