PGE 430 Drilling Homework 8 Solution Due at lecture time: Nov. 6th Using the equations in the hydraulics module please prepare a spread sheet that performs the following calculations. (1) Determines the friction pressure loss in each section of the circulating path; inside the drill pipe, inside the drill collars, in the drill collar – hole annulus, and in the drill pipe – hole annulus. The spread sheet results should be presented, as shown below. +2 pts (2) Determines the optimum pump rate to maximize hydraulic horsepower at the bit. The flow rate as shown below is 447 gpm. +2 pts (3) Determine the nozzle sizes, in 32 nd ”, to maximize horsepower at the bit. Please make the nozzles diameters as large as possible. Three – 9/32” and two – 10/32”. +2 pts (4) Determines if the pump rate selected will circulate a 0.3” diameter rock chip to the surface. Should be a part of the spread sheet. +2 pts Data Set: mud Depth = 10,000 ft Bit Diameter = 8.75" This bit has five nozzles. Drill Pipe = 4.5" OD, 16.6 ppf, Grade E
