PGE 430 HWK 10 Due in lecture Nov. 23 (1) For the data set that is given below please make the following calculations. ( 29 m p 10,000' BHT=225 deg F Surface Temp=100 deg F Temperature gradient = 1.65 deg F/100 with an ambient temperature of 60 deg F. 1.65 60 deg F 100 9.5 ppg =20 cp D D D T ρ μ = = + = Reservoir BHP=5,500 psi Drill pipe: 4.5", 16.6 ppf, Grade E Drill collars: 6.25" x 2.875" x 300' Bit: 8.75" with 2-12/32" and 1-13/32" nozzles. Pumps: Two PZ-9 with 5.5" diameter x 9" stroke liners and maximum pressure of 3,000 psi During drilling the pump rate is 500 gal/min (1) What is the equivalent circulating density (ECD) under normal drilling operations? You may use your spread sheet to predict friction pressures losses. (2) When the well encounters the reservoir, what will the shut in drill pipe pressure be after the BOP is closed? (3) Please predict the shut in casing pressure after the BOP is closed if the pit gain is 10 bbls and: (a) The reservoir fluid is 1.8 ppg gas. (b) The reservoir is 9.8 ppg salt water.
