Sociological Imagination 5-6: 3 classic Sociologists: 1) Marx 2) Weber: Sees religion as the cause of the rise of our society. (religion- development of capitalism, protestant ethic in the spirit of capitalism.). 3) What are structures? Human society is always in the process of structuration. Habits we develop over time. Habits/laws/values form things that happen on a reg basis. Emile Durkheim: Organic Solidarity: social cohesion that works from parts of society works as an integrated whole. You have a lot more specialization taking place. (American society or European society as an example. Government is taking care of things. Pharmacists. Doctors.). Each person has a part inside the whole and we make it work together. Mechanic solidarity: Mechanical in a sense that you obey. If someone says to do something, you do it. Anime??(sp?): Means to get to goal- means and goal are contradictory. (Goal of getting wealthy, sometimes the mean to get there contradicts the goal, such as if you have to cheat to get wealthy)
