AnS 319 – Animal Nutrition - Spring 2012 MWF lectures (W142 Food Science) Instructor: Dr. Howard Tyler 294-6434 123 Kildee Hall [email protected] Teaching Assistants: The names of your TA’s and their contact info are provided on the class server site (\\Lab- server3\AnsLab\Class\AnS319). Office hours: Ask for an appointment in person at front desk in 123 Kildee OR 119 Kildee or call 294-6021 OR 294-3161 to make an appointment by phone. Lecture Notes: Lecture notes will be available in PowerPoint format on the class server site (\\Lab- server3\AnsLab\Class\AnS319). There will also be supplemental material available on the class server site. Please keep in mind that these notes in no way represent the total amount of material you are expected to know for exams and quizzes. Therefore, class participation is encouraged. Students should print out class notes prior to class and “fill in” the missing information during the lecture. Recommended Textbook: Jurgens and Bregendahl, Animal Feeding & Nutrition 10th Ed., Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company Course objectives: This course is designed to introduce concepts and principles of animal feeding and nutrition. The nutrition concepts will generally apply to all species, and differences among species will be highlighted. Some specific objectives of the course are: To describe the processes of digestion, absorption, assimilation and metabolism of nutrients in animals with diverse gastrointestinal systems. To learn the requirements, structure and function of the major nutrients. To become familiar with energy and protein systems used in feeding animals . AnS 319 FAQ I can’t make it to class - what should I do? If it is a lecture day, then you do NOT need to contact me. Simply review the online materials and get notes from a classmate. You CANNOT make up any quizzes or assignments that are assigned during regular class periods. If there is a scheduled exam, then you need to e-mail me at [email protected]u as soon as you realize you will miss the class. You CAN make up those missed tests if you do so within 5 days.
