TV Parental Guidelines 1997 1. Congress, FCC and TV associations 2. Broadcast and cable networks 3. Not a regulation- voluntary 4. V-chips included in TV sets (parents block some program) 5. Does not apply to news, sports, advertising. Modern TV industry Today’s TV World divided into 3 areas 1. TV broadcasting 2. Cable services 3. Satellite services TV broadcasting - Commercial - Non-commercial - Billboards- mentions of a sponsor’s name or products at the start or end of programs airing on the station. Television network: Organization that distributes television programs to all its affiliated stations, or stations that agree to carry a substantial amount of the network’s material. Network Affiliate Local stations that are not owned by a broadcast network, but transmit their signals and their programs.
