Pour about 20 mL of acetic acid (a catalyst) over the steel wool and let it sit for 1 minute. Remove the steel wool from the beaker, using crucible tongs. Let it rest on a paper towel while it reacts for 15 – 20 minutes. Examine the product carefully and record observations. Dispose of the steel wool in trash can. The iron reacted with oxygen to produce rust (iron III oxide). (a) Observations : (b) Balanced Chemical Equation : (c) Type of Reaction : Reaction 2 : Fill a well from the spot plate halfway with the copper (II) sulfate solution. Add a small loosely crumbled piece of aluminum foil. Allow the reaction to continue until you can observe the new products. Record all of your observations. Dispose of the products in the labeled waster beaker.
