12/05/07 English 1101 V1 Final Exam Paper The Influence of Television Television has been around for many of us our whole lives, and for our parents lives as well. There are many different things on television as well. With televison there comes a debate whether it is good for us, or bad. In reading Marie Winn’s essay “The Plug-In Drug” she makes the argument that televison has become bad, affecting our relationships with each other, it has been my experience that television makes no real difference either way. As babies we are primarily first introduced to televison through our parents or older siblings. We have no real understanding of what is being displayed until we begin growing those skills. Our parents may turn on Barney where the bright colors and fun sounds entertain us. If there was no television we would gain this by other means. A Parent will not generally turn something bad on because loud noises are upsetting to an infant. Marie Winn claims that televison is a replacement for family interaction. As a toddler or
