1 Economics 5330 – Hong Kong Applied Econometrics Spring 2012 Lead Professor: Dwight Israelsen Instructor: Lawrence Chan Overview: This course is designed to help students understand the fundamental techniques of econometrics and apply those tools to analyze real world economic phenomena and to solve business and economic problems. When students have completed this course, they should be able to investigate economic relationships through empirical estimation of relevant economic models. Text: Studenmund, Using Econometrics: A Practical Guide , 5 th Edition Quizzes: Quizzes worth 50 points each will be given at the end of weeks 3, 8, and 13. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. Exams: Midterm exams worth 100 points each will be given at the end of weeks 5 and 10. A final exam worth 200 points will be given at the end of the semester. Assignments: Four homework assignments will be made during the course, and will be due at the end of weeks 4, 7, 10, and 14. Each assignment will be worth 10 points.
