Briefly describe different types of file structures. How can this help your objects in your lab project? 3. Explain how you plan to structure your lab project (rationale for selecting keys, file structures etc) assuming you are given the job to build an OLTP application. You can be very creative and make sure to have illustrations / examples so that the class have a better understanding on your proposal. 4. Information assurance / Database security has been a hot topic to secure data. Chapter 10 of Mannino talks about database views, can you secure data in your lab project with help of views? If so explain how will you accomplish this with suitable examples. 5. The basic table profile elements include the number of rows and the physical space occupied; distinctive column values and its occurrence; and its relationships. Table Statistics for NFL Teams is fairly simple. There are only 32 teams, therefore there will only be 32 rows. In addition, with very few exceptions, there are mostly distinctive column values for all columns. The City and State are the exceptions since there are two teams that play in the same stadium and multiple teams in the same State.

Here is a Histogram for the State Column The NFL Players table will have a column that will have distinctive column values for the position and either by in the unit of defense or offense. Application profiles provide information on the data access and manipulation (adding, changing, and removing). Assuming that there are forms to enter the data for each of the five tables below, it is evident that the NFL Teams and NFL Conference tables would be fairly static after initial population of data but it may be used for retrieval much more often with its relationships with the other tables. The NFL Scores table would be updated weekly throughout the season while the NFL Players is subject to change at any time. 2. Briefly describe different types of file structures. How can this help your objects in your lab project? In a simplistic view there are file structures that work sequentially based on insert order; or primary keys located by physical address; or logarithmic functions; or union operations. The NFL Players table is one where you can see that straight sequential inserts may not be optimal. Consideration for the many deletes of this table as players retire or are let go.
