A GIS BASED ASSESSMENT OF ALACHUA COUNTY Background The Child Friendly Cities (CFC) is an initiative of the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and of the United Nations Habitat. It was launched in 1996 to highlight children’s rights to their communities, with a focus on the rights of the less advantaged. CFC ‘s main goals are: Create evidence and increase awareness about ch ildren’s rights . Develop systems of governance where children have a direct voice in the development of policies, laws, regulations, programs and budgets that affect their communities. Assignment You are asked to use your GIS expertise to assist in assessing the degree of child friendliness in Alachua County. Your goal is to use data and analysis to create evidence in support of advocacy actions for the improvement of children’s access to their community. You will develop a method for mapping current spatial patterns with a focus on possible infringements of children’s rights .
