James Yang 766-771 Q4 1. Analyze the two main ways that America funded the Great War. Financing the war was separated mainly into buying war bonds, and raising taxes, one patriotic, yet risky, and the other, unpopular, yet guaranteed. The war bonds that were advertised not only helped to raise money for the war, they also promoted the war and promoted patriotism and unmatched support. Using propaganda to market the war as a democratic cause, war bonds were purchased with full support of the people. However, the purchases could never be guaranteed, at any one moment the war’s popularity could turn so the flow of money was always at risk. The raising of taxes to fund the war was something that could never be put at risk, because the people had an obligation to pay their taxes. This strategy made sure that there would be money to back up all of the actions in the war. However, taxes that forced payment were unpopular, lessening the popularity for the war itself as well. 2.
