In “Can the Brain Be Rebooted to Stop Drug Addiction?” a Scientific American article, Nikhil Swaminathan discusses how scientists have recently found a “reset switch” in mice that allows them to return to pre-addiction state following a long period of addiction. The author’s intended audience is the scientific community interested in the future treatments of drug addition. Swaminathan explains that mice were given methamphetamines and a fluorescent tracer dye that displayed areas of suppressed activity within specific areas of the brain ranging from the cortex to the striatum.
