Chapter 10 Be able to define organizational change -the adoption of a new idea or behavior by an organization Be able to define learning organization -an organization in which everyone is engaged in identifying and solving problems, enabling the organization to continously experiment, improve, and increase its capability. Review Exhibit 10-1 Know there are internal and external forces for change- External-external forces originate in all environmental sectors, including customers, competitors, technology, economic forces, and the international arena. Internal-arise from internal activities and decisions. They are new departments, technologies, employees, labor unions, and production inefficiencies that generate a need for a manager to change. Be able to define performance gap -a disparity between existing and desired performance levels. Factors for initiating change 1) Search-the process of learning about current developments inside or outside the organization that can be used to meet a perceived need for change. 2) Creativity-the generation of novel ideas that may meet a perceived need or offer opportunities for the organization 3) Idea Champions and new venture teams- A) Idea Champion-a person who see the need for and champions productive change within the organization B) New Venture Team-a unit separate from the mainstream of the organization that is responsible for
