Chapter 1: -Light microscope allows us to magnify cells up to 1000 times -Prokaryotes are the most diverse of cells -Virtually any organic material can be used as food by one sort of bacterium -Endoplasmic reticulum is the site where most cell membrane components as well as materials destined for export from the cell, are made. -Golgi apparatus: Receives and often chemically modifies the molecules made in the endoplasmic reticulum -Lysosomes: intercellular digestion

Copes well with variable chemical conditions-Brewers Yeast (S. cerevisiae): Good subject for genetic analysis -Arabidopsis: Can be grown indoors in large numbers and produces thousands of offspring in 8-10 weeks. Good for genetic analysis-Drosophila: Genes on how produce an adult body. Mutation-Zebrafish: See through for first two weeks....
