Susan Martinez March 14, 2011 Psychological Aspects of Human Sexuality Reaction Paper #2 1. Growing up I had mixed signals on what my gender identity was or should have been. Although it was clear what my gender role was clear to me because of my mother and grandmother, who practiced the everyday “womanly duties”, such as cooking, cleaning, tending to the family’s needs, etc., and my identity was still in question. Growing up, I had an older brother, and because he was the only male in the family, I took on the role of his little brother, or in other words “the brother he never had”. Therefore, instead of observationally learning from my mother and grandmother, I spent my days playing in the dirt, playing video games, playing rough sports, such as football, baseball, and wrestling. I considered myself a tomboy and preferred wearing male-associated clothing along with participating in their activities, regardless of the backlash I received from my mother and grandmother, because I considered myself as one of the fellow guys. I remember my mother and grandmother yelling at me and my brother saying that I was going to turn into a boy if I did not stop behaving the way I did. It didn’t bother me then,
