Unformatted text preview: Susan Martinez January 25, 2011 Psychology of Gender Extra Credit #1 The song, She is Love by Parachute exemplifies a few topics that were discussed in class. The first subject it related to was the androcentric bias in research in which men are viewed as the standard, therefore inferring that women are deficient if they differ. For example, women can be seen as needy or dependent because they are more interested in maintaining relationship than men. However, in this song, which is sung by a man, the chorus states, She is love, and she is all that I NEED. In all respects, this contradicts this androcentric bias by showing that men can be needy and caring about their relationships. She is Love, also contradicts another stereotype about men; their ability to be strong and non-expressive. The first verse, Ive been beaten down, Ive been kicked around / But she takes it all for me. / And I lost my faith, in my darkest days / But she makes me want to believe, takes it all for me....
