Susan Martinez January 25, 2011 Psychology of Gender Journal Entry #1 The book mentions different types of sexism towards women. These concepts of sexism tend to be based off of the traditional ideology of gender, where women are meant to take on household responsibilities, and men are meant to provide fully for the family and work outside of the home. Stemming out of the traditional ideology is traditional sexism. Traditional sexism is geared towards women by putting them below men, especially because they work in the household, which means that they are not competent enough to work outside with men to provide for a family. For example, when someone openly expresses how terrible women are at driving because they cannot handle such heavy machinery. Modern sexism is viewed as completely ignoring and denying that there are such things as sexism against women when it comes to preferential treatment and discrimination. For example, in the sports world, there are many sports geared towards men that don’t necessarily welcome women to participate in, such as football or wrestling.
