Susan Martinez March 15, 2011 Psychology of Gender Journal Entry #3 The obstacles faced with having a cross-sex friendship are many. These challenges include emotional bond challenge, sexual challenge, equality challenge, audience challenge, and the opportunity challenge. The emotional bond challenge faced by cross-sex friendships is one that questions what the true motives of the relationship are. In this hindrance the dilemma is whether the friendship is based off of true friendship terms, such as that of same-sex friendships of heterosexual people, or whether there is a deeper connection that could lead to romantic relationship in the future. The sexual challenge is intertwined with the emotional bond challenge. The sexual challenge is about the obstacle faced by cross-sex friendships where there could possibly be a physical and sexual attraction involved.
