Valerie Udeozor Due: September 13, 2011 Public Speaking/ Mara Falk Pet Peeve Speech Topic: Hand washing General Purpose: To inform SPS: At the end of my speech, the audience will be able to explain to the hygienically-inept why their refusal to wash their hands after using the restroom is both disgusting and potentially hazardous to the people around them. Central Idea: Washing your hands is not only basic hygiene, but a fundamental service to yourself and fellow community members. Outline I. Intro a. How many people do you think properly wash their hands after using a public restroom? And by properly, I mean with soap and water. Contrary to popular belief, water alone does not kill germs. a.1. According to the CNN Health, only 64% of women and 32% of men use soap when they wash their hands after using a public restroom. Hence, on average, a measly 48% of people properly wash their hands. b.
