Renaissance Life, Marriage, Court Life -Dominated by warrior class, way to become wealthy - Birth, Military prowess, fixed hierarchy in the state. -Gave way to talent, individual achievement, roles in government. Families -Society is very patriarchal, the father controlled money and ran businesses, responsible for all legal matters, and sole control of the education of his children, and his authority was absolute. -Formal stage of adulthood. (Nowadays it’s our 21 st birthday) -No coming of age for children, child became an adult when a father went before a judge and asked for his child’s emancipation -Family played a very important role. -Family meant an extended household/family -Grandparents, mother, father, children, servants, unmarried sisters -Families tended to not leave a certain area; a family could come to control a whole district Marriage -Close attention was paid to marriage, Related to family or business ties
