Most of you like to spend money. Lets investigate how long it would take to spend a million dollars. You probably think that this would not be much of a problem, right? There is only one rule we will follow in this exercise. On each day you can only spend half of what you start the day with. So on the first day you get to spend a half million dollars. 1. Question: "If on January 1 you start with one million dollars, on what day will you end up with only one dollar or less? 2. Estimate how long you think it will take to spend the million dollars: two days? a week? a month? a year? ten years? 3. The following table may help in figuring out how long it would take.
