Twelfth Night Notes 2/8/12 - Made up of two households o Orsino’s household Open to input from servants Laidback, idle, leisurely Orsino is a count, and part of his gentleman quality is that he lounges around listening to music Listens to music because he’s wallowing in love Also mourning the fact that Olivia does not return his love Does not have any female servants (at least not knowingly) o Olivia’s household Chaotic, not very well controlled Due to Sir Toby and Andrew Aguecheek Feste is misbehaving Olivia is mourning and always with her ladies ACT 1 SCENE 1 - Olivia is overwhelmed by her brother’s death and will not/ cannot love - Orsino feels an all-consuming passion for Olivia and is certain she will feel the same o Mourning because she is not returning his love o Less like love, more like an affectation - How does Orsino show his love? How does Olivia know? o
