The Arts In The Edits 2/17/12 - Camera and Film o Affordances- action/agency o Constraints/rules Constraints: what you can’t do makes it challenging and interesting o Immersion and Interaction Moving from linear editing to non-linear editing Linear editing means you have all of the footage sitting in front of you Non-linear editing means you make everything digital so you can choose any scene o VHS (linear) vs. DVD (non-linear) o Transitions Straight cut: just from one cut to the other No change in time or place Can dissolve or fade o Dissolve is short jump in time or space (one fades out as the other is brought in) o Fade fades all the way to black. Either a great distance or great amount of time is traversed o Continuity
