Zak Bergman 4/4/09 Biology 210-3 Section 61 Lab 2: Cell Surface Interactions Introduction This lab, which is designed to examine different cell surface interactions, is divided into two parts. The first part utilizes bovine red blood cells to evaluate the ways in which different concentrations of wheat germ lectin affect agglutination. The effects of different sugars and enzymes will be determined, as well, by again using a range of concentrations of wheat lectin and evaluating the way the cell agglutination was affected. The second part of this experiment utilizes human cheek cells whose peroxidase enzymes were labeled with DAB. The DAB works as an indicator of lectin concentrations by staining them brown at the lectin binding sites and forming a precipitate. This staining process will be done on cells that have already been treated with a sugar or enzyme and Pea Lectin-Peroxidase. Data and Results Please see attached. Discussion
