The first effect that was found to be experimentally true was, in a combination of two studies, that addition of resveratrol to a high fat, high calorie diet overcame the deleterious effects imposed by this caloric increase. They also found in one of these studies that the shortening of lifespan by the high fat diet was reversed after the animals were administered resveratrol. The second study found that resveratrol increased SIRT1 activation, PGC-1α deacetlyation, and mitochondrial biogenesis in muscle. The key to this finding is the activation of SIRT1 which is a sirtuin protein and this family has been shown to trigger stress tolerance and metabolic changes and as a result increase lifespan....
