Blake Yocom Freshman Seminar Prof Goldberg February 9, 2006 Critique of Presentations Presentations throughout this course have covered a wide array of topics. Some include a very specific field of Chi & Reiki, the controversial Intelligent Design debate, and a light-hearted presentation on steroid use in Major League Baseball. The most recent groups chose alternative medicine and Cryptozoology, respectively. Both areas of study were relevant to the seminar’s focus and name, that being “Science, Pseudoscience, and Scientific Hoaxes.” The purpose of this paper is to effectively critique the subject matter of each topic rather than the quality of the presentation. This is the case for numerous reasons, the first and foremost being that it is far more educational to delve into the subject matter versus discussing trivial things such as speaking skills and slide layout. As a disclaimer, all of the presentations have been interesting and educational, however not always engaging. The past two presentations have in fact been lacking a thorough following discussion.
