Bryan Saul [email protected] 05921297 Personal Sports History Essay Sports, as with probably most of the students enrolled in this class, is a major aspect of my life. Although I cannot pinpoint the exact time when sports first became a part of my life, my parents have always told me that even as an infant, they could tell that to some degree, I was meant to be an athlete and/or be in sports. At very early ages in my life, while I sat perched in my high chair in my kitchen, my mom would give me an orange and tell me to eat, but eating was not the purpose I saw in the orange; for me, the orange was my first encounter with a ball. From what my parents tell me, if they gave me anything round, it was soon soaring across the room. At the early age of two and a half, I was playing my first real sport. Growing up in Miami, the weather allowed me to always be outside, and my parents brought me to a tennis coach, where I began taking lessons with two other kids, both who have grown to be two of my very good friends. My parents were never pushy in terms of me being competitive, but rather wanted me to have fun and meet people. My obsession with tennis exponentially increased somewhat quickly, and didn’t stop for about 12 years. By the time I hit five years old, I was playing soccer, hockey and basketball and picked up baseball at around 7. In addition to playing sports, my fascination with sports quickly spread to watching as well. Much to my sister’s dismay, I always demanded to watch SportsCenter, and my grandpa has always been astonished that since a very young age, I seemingly always had a stat for every situation to back up whatever I was saying.
