1) In youth sports, what are the differences between player-controlled (or informal) sport and adult-controlled (organized) sport? What is emphasized in each? What do sport sociologists believe should be emphasized? Do you agree or disagree? Player Controlled Sport o More of a pick-up game feel o Rules are used from adult controlled sport, but are often changed to accommodate those playing, and to make the game more fun o Game is centered on play rather than competition, and is usually done for fun o Example: French Soccer Children are not involved in adult controlled sport until an older age, because the French put a strong emphasis on developing a free flowing game More adaptable and personal feel to the game o Fun and an actual love of the sport are emphasized…personal expression. o Organized to maximize action o Allows the players to try new actions without the scare of having a coach looking down on them Adult controlled sport o Centered more around the rules of the game o Performance ethic: evaluate their experiences in terms of progress they make in developing technical skills and moving towards higher level of competition o Teaches… Rules Skills Proper playing of positions Importance of following adult directions, strategy, and training methods

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
