Jessica Gimbel September 29, 2010 Section 312 Debate 1 My name is Jessica and I am the corn farmer from Nebraska, U.S.A. I believe that NAFTA has helped individual farmers like me to flourish and make a prosperous living. Corn serves as the most important crop that is traded between counties and this trade law allows me to trade cheaply with Mexico. I feel that NAFTA should be revised only slightly because although I profit from selling corn to Mexico, I fear that my small farm will be affected negatively by the NAFTA regulations as they are now. I feel secure with NAFTA as it is because I can sell my corn to Mexico cheaply and I am gaining a profit and with these profits am able to upgrade my own farm’s technology. According to Academic Search Premier, my corn crop has been known to be produced at almost half the cost that it would take to produce it in Mexico. Farms in Mexico that consequently go out of business because of differences in production costs are out of the way as competitors for my small farm in Nebraska. This allows me to not
