It is based on a set of technologies that alter the genetic makeup of living organisms, including plants, by inserting genes rather than using cross-breeding and selection techniques in order to derive certain benefits. The goals of sustainable agriculture include conserving water, soil, energy and resources, managing wastes and pests, selecting plants that will adapt to the environment, increase biodiversity and profit while reducing risk. I believe that biotechnology cannot exist sustainably because it does not align with all of these goals. Public opinion has more likely than not, sided with my argument. Firstly, biotechnology impacts the surrounding environment through gene flow and seed disbursal. It has effects on herbicide and pest use and also directly affects non-
