Believers in the ancientmedieval church placed unnecessary power in the hands of the rulers of the time. The papaloffice was corrupted to higher degree levels. The ancient leaders are held responsible for causingcontroversy in the entire church. However, the most controversial, and the grave issue of the three in the medieval churchis Simony.Simony entails buying and selling of the gifts of the holy spirit for money. Simonywas discovered when highly ranked leaders of the church began demanding payment before theygranted offices and leadership positions to their peers(Hamblin and Peterson par 5).
