Student Name: Exploring TCP/IP Although we use a logical address, such as 192.168.0.100 to communicate with another computer, it is the physical address, also called Media Access Control (MAC) address that is used to communicate between two directly connected computers. When you first open up communications, it uses the IP address of the directly connected computer to ask for its MAC address. The operating system stores this association between the IP address and the MAC address in the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) cache. DELIVERABLES: You will answer the questions below and insert one screen-shot as described below. Launch the “XP + XP” environment. We start out by looking at the cache: 1. Get to the command prompt. Start->Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt 2.
