Concurrent validity Concurrent validity Does a new measure correlate with existing measures of the same construct? Compares a new measure with a well-established measure Example: IQ tests Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 4 th ed. Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test, 5 th ed. Remember: concurrent validity does not mean that the 2 measures are identical However, this type of validity builds support for a new measure

Predictive validity Predictive validity When the measure accurately predicts a behavior. Example: IQ tests predict school performance Positive relationship between IQ score and school performance

Construct validity Construct validity The scores obtained from a measure behave in the same way as the variable does. Example: aggression increases as temperature increases More violence occurs in warmer times of year Measure of aggression should behave in the same way Never established absolutely New research comes out every day This is more of an ideal that we approach with each new research finding
