STI presentation in the throat Chlamydia : Most infections of the mouth and throat are asymptomatic. If present, symptoms are soreness and redness in the throat or mouth. It is unlikely for Chlamydia to infect the mouth/throat Gonorrhea of Throat : (aka pharyngeal gonorrhea) Most people never even experience symptoms. It is difficult to transmit and usually goes away by itself without treatment. When symptoms are shown, it can be acutely painful, and in some cases can cause severe infections or tonsillitis. If you do have a persistently sore throat that arrives about a week after unprotected oral sex, it can be due to the gonorrhea bacteria, neisseria gonorrhoeae or gonococcus. One week is the approximate time it takes for the symptoms of throat gonorrhea to develop. This is also the best time to be tested and begin treatment. SORE THROAT IS REALLY THE ONLY SYMPTOM OF GONORRHEA OF THE THROAT . Transmitted via oral sex.
