Tension Type Headache (TTH) >:( Definition #1 Type of headache Classified as episodic (ETTH) or chronic (CTTH). AKA: tension headache, stress headache, muscle contraction headache, psychomyogenic headache, psychogenic headache Epidemiology Women Slighty > Men Causes: Stress - Usually occurs in the afternoon after long stressful work hours Sleep deprivation Irregular meal time (hunger) Eyestrain Headache medication Overuse Physical exertion Diet - caffeine, alcohol, chocolate Menstrual Cycle Meds - nitrates, SSRIs, Antihypertensives Environmental - sun glare, odors, smoke, noise, lighting Signs & Symptoms Characterized by: Mild or moderate & bilateral Pain. (unilateral in 10-20% of Pts) Constant, tight, pressing, or bandlike sensation Frontal & temporal regions most common - but can occur in occipital or parietal areas. Usually lasts <24hrs
