LI: Condyloma By: Daniel Trimble Definition/Etiology: Human papillomavirus (HPV), a non-enveloped DNA virus, is the main cause for condyloma acuminata, or genital warts. There are many types of HPV, and they are epidermotropic. HPV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact and appears to be an easily transmitted virus. Pathology: Condyloma is mainly caused by HPV genotypes 6 or 11. HPV infects the squamous epithelial cells, which results in an increase in epithelium and keratin production, which leads to the manifestation of the warts. There are high-risk forms of HPV genotypes (16,18, 31…) that are associated with vulvar, vaginal, cervical, and anorectal intraepithelial neoplasia and with invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Clinical presentation: Most warts are asymptomatic, but there may be irritation, itching, and/or bleeding in the localized area. Anogenital warts are usually flesh-colored, pink, brown, or whitish gray lesions that are flat to exophytic cauliflower-like papules or plaques. The lesions vary in size, shape, and quantity.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
