Improving patients’ outcomes in healthcare is a major goal of healthcare providers, in doing so healthcare providers created a systems development life cycle (SDLC). In improving patient outcomes it is imperative to create the right team to manage the development. A Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) provides a standardized project management framework that can improve the quality of information systems. The concept of following a consistent project management framework to boost quality outcomes for patients and can be applied equally to healthcare improvement (Curry, McGregor, & Tracy, 2007). Due to the extensive experience of a nurse leader it is imperative to involve them in every step of the SDLC to corroborate the effectiveness of a new health information technology and not to waste the time and resources on an ineffective health information technology for a hospital system.The oldest method of the systems development life cycle is the waterfall method, which includes six steps.
