Improving patients’ outcomes in healthcare is a major goal of healthcare providers, in doing so healthcare providers created a systems development life cycle (SDLC). In improving patient outcomes it is imperative to create the right team to manage the development. A Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) provides a standardized project management framework that can improve the quality of information systems. The concept of following a consistent project management framework to boost quality outcomes for patients and can be applied equally to healthcare improvement (Curry, McGregor, & Tracy, 2007). Due to the extensive experience of a nurse leader it is imperative to involve them in every step of the SDLC to corroborate the effectiveness of a new health information technology and not to waste the time and resources on an ineffective health information technology for a hospital system.The oldest method of the systems development life cycle is the waterfall method, which includes six steps. The first of these steps include feasibility, which is where the team determines whether the project should be initiated and supported and then the analysis phase that includes the requirements for the systems are teased out from a detailed study of the business needs of the organization.
