U.S. Abortions U.S. Abortions Almost half of all pregnancies are unintended. Four in ten unintended pregnancies end in abortions. In 2005, 1.21 million abortions were performed. Each year, approximately 2 percent of women aged 15-44 have an abortion. Most Western industrialized countries have lower abortion rates than the U.S. 50 percent of women who have abortions are younger than 25; 17 percent are teenagers.
